Female Gut Tunes
Most people who show up at the Music Box, 77th and Cass streets, on Friday, Sept. 22, will arrive never having heard of Robynn Ragland, a singer-guitarist who will perform there on that night. Those same people will be glad they went to the Box that night after hearing Ragland's songs.
Ragland's style of melodic rock combines elements of Tom Petty's Americana, rootsy rock, Juliana Hatfield's brash tempos and Sheryl Crow's pop accessibility. That does not distract from Ragland's original music, available on her album Modern American Female Gut. Ragland can hold her own, and she proves it on cuts such as "Juggerknot" and "Any Thoughts on This."
If Ragland's show lives up to her album, it should be
a dandy. The Music Box line is 391-7773.
