ROBYNN RAGLAND: MODERN AMERICAN FEMALE GUT (Saifer)
It is a complete mystery why Robynn Ragland is not better known outside of the St. Louis area (where she was recently nominated as "Artist of the Year"). She sings with energy and passion, rocks with confidence and authority and, in general, writes hugely appealing songs filled with an abundance of lovely melodies and thoughtful lyrics. Add in local pop-meister Adam Schmitt's usual quality guitars, pop-god production and layered vocals, and the mystery only deepens. Yes, we know the record is at least a year late (her last label, Red Ant, is either on "hiatus" or just plain gone), but reward her perseverance by giving this record a shot. Standout tracks include "People You Know" and "Peace In The Water". This record is real easy to like, so c'mon and be the first on your block. Solid (****). -- Cody Sokolski
